Philosophy 101 |
|
I had never heard it put so simply before,
but I couldn't agree more.
Once there was a young woman that was about to finish
her last year of college.
She considered herself to be a liberal Democrat, and her
father was a conservative Republican.
One day she was challenging her father about his beliefs
and his opposition to programs like welfare.
He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.
She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA, but it was really
tough. She had to study all the time, never had time to
go out and party, and often got little sleep because of
all of the studying. She didn't have time for a boy friend
and didn't really have many college friends because of
all her studying.
He then asked how her friend Mary, that was attending
the same college, was doing.
She replied that she was barely getting by. She had a
2.0 GPA, never studied, was very popular on campus, and
was at parties all the time. She often wouldn't show up
for classes because she was hung over.
He then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's
office and ask if she could take 1.0 off her 4.0 GPA and
give it to her friend that only had a 2.0. That way they
would both have a 3.0 GPA.
She grew incensed and replied, "That wouldn't be fair!
I worked really hard for my grades and Mary has done next
to nothing to get hers."
After a moment of silence, her father said, "You've
just explained, in a nutshell, why I'm a conservative
Republican."

Those
two callers at about 12:45 pm today, 2/13/02, were so
funny - I couldn't stop laughing. (The one who thought
your name was Tony and then kept calling you Lindy, and
then the poor lady who called to ask you what to do with
the duct tape.) In these tense times, it was great to
have something so laugh out funny! Thanks for such a hearty
laugh!
As always, I love your show,

I
thought you stooped to a new low on Wednesday 2-11-03
when you had a hardy laugh over Senator Kerry's physical
condition. While I listen to your show most days and don't
always agree with your opinions I believe making light
of someone who just had cancer surgery makes me believe
that your show is all about ratings. Everyone I ran into
could not believe the way you talked about it. I believe
you owe your listeners an apology.
I have a few questions for you to answer:
1. Who was President during Desert Storm and why was Saddam
allowed to stay in power then?
2. What makes the Bush administration think they can rid
the world of Saddam when here we are a year and 5 months
and we have no idea where Bin Laden is.I have no doubt
that somewhere in your answers you will mention Bill Clinton
since it is obvious that you blame Clinton for all our
problems. I also find it amazing that Bush wants to allocate
all this AIDS money to Africa yet here we are still searching
for a cure for cancer. And how behind us are the African
nations in going to war with Iraq? I think ridding the
world of Saddam is Bush's personal crusade! Or are we
trying to make up for the mistakes that Senior Bush made!
I just think that instead of cutting off the listeners
you don't agree with or who are seemingly more intelligent
than the regular callers you have call you, you should
hear them out.So try thinking of what your saying before
you hit on someone elses misfortunes. I believe if you
look closely at Mr. Bush you could find a few skeletons
in his closet!

Nope, .........I really don't see a pattern here to justify
profiling, do
you?
So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly
fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners
will no longer be allowed to profile certain people. They
must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little
kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret
Service agents who are members of the President's security
detail, 85-year old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal
of Honor winning former Governors.
Let's send this to as many people as we can so that the
Gloria Aldreds and other dunder headed attorneys along
with Federal Justices that want to thwart common sense
feel doubly ashamed of themselves. As the writer of the
award winning story Forest Gump so aptly put it, "Stupid
is as stupid does!"

he French are Socialists and the Germans hate
the Jews |
|
Hello
John,
Welcome back from your vacation.
The large Muslim population in France and the fact that
the French are wimps are part of the reason. You heard
about the sale of 100,000 French rifles? Never been used,
only dropped once. The political structure in both countries
and the fact that anyone can run and get elected is another
reason for the governments of these two countries acting
as they do. The expression as the wind changes direction,
so do France and Germany. We need to get Saddam out ASAP
before we bow to world sentiment.
Have a great day!

France |
|
Listened
to a bit of your show mid-day yesterday. Attached is a
letter to the editor that was published in the WSJ last
week. It was sent to me by my brother in Indiana. This
about summarizes my feelings about France and Germany:
The 20th century will remember France as the only nation
that failed to fire a shot in defense of its capital,
that while under occupation rounded up its Jews for the
Nazis without even being ordered to do so, that scuttled
its navy rather than flee to the Allies to continue the
struggle, that produced films and sang in nightclubs for
Nazis so as to live happily ever after as a Vichy ally
of the Nazis while millions of others fought for their
liberation (after the war we were told that all Frenchmen
were in the Resistance), that tried to build a nuclear
reactor (read nuclear bomb) for Iraq, that is so filled
with self-doubt that the use of a couple of foreign words
like telephone or drugstore causes a national stroke,
that threatens to use a veto right against the very nation
that granted it that right as a sop gift, that is so obsessed
with international impotence that it openly wishes for
death and destruction upon a stronger ally, but in the
guise of a higher morality (read appeasement).
Jacques Chirac recently declared that "war is total failure."
Luckily for him and France the Allies felt differently
in his own lifetime or there wouldn't be a nation called
France today. After a century of abysmal decisions, for
which tens of thousands of Americans lie dead in that
country, France should have the decency to keep quiet
and the U.S. should have the good sense not to listen.

Good
Morning John-
Just wondering what your thoughts might be on the following.
Yesterday and this morning I saw a clip of a Muslim cleric
at Haj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia yelling at the crowd the
following..."The enemy in Iraq has bared it's fangs
but it will not defeat you." When are we going to
hold Saudi Arabia accountable?
I also think that Saudi Arabia is sheltering OBL because
of all his family ties there and their relationship to
the Saudi government. They protect their family first
along with other Muslims no matter what.
My best,
Terri

Phil
is correct, Arctic business district will never come back,
it's days have passed, like Dodge City. But, as an old

it was made up of more than just Newberry's and Woolworth's
and drug stores with soda fountains. And, no I can not

Dear
John ~
I love your show but you are way off. The giels at Bay
View were and are not against the President, they are
against the people, women and children who will no doubtedly
be killed. They want Osama dead, and Saadam, not the innocent
people. Osama got away and probably Saadam will, in the
meantime, the same thing happens, innocent people killed.
The girls are behind the President, go in and get the
evil out. There is a difference being anti-war and pro-peace.
The people are the ones who suffer and the evil leaders
go into hiding. The point for these girls is not anti-Bush,
they are for Bush. But kill evil in every way possible
without killing civilians- that is all.

Where is Everybody? |

John,
I stopped at the local convenience store this morning
to pick up a newspaper and I noticed the "usual" guy wasn't
behind the counter. I flagged down a cab and was surprised
to see a well-dressed caucasian male behind the wheel.
He drove me to the gas station where my car was being
serviced and I was greeted by someone I didn't know.
I thought I was living in the Twilight Zone. Then I came
to my senses. The store clerk, the cab driver and the
gas station attendant were all called to active duty -
in the Iraqi Army.

More War Rhetoric
But Still Little Substance
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February
12, 2003
By Chris Temple, Associate Editor, Media Bypass Magazine
Following his State of the Union address, President Bush
enjoyed a strongbut somewhat temporarysurge
in support for his war plans concerning Iraq. It seemed
a matter of mere weeks before the bombs started to fall;
and it still may be that simple, regardless of what else
happens.
However, what little momentum the president enjoyed has
again been lost. As in previous such times, this has occurred
due primarily to the Administrations failure to
make a sufficiently compelling case to invade Iraq, something
which has many other nations hesitant to sign on.
I cannot help being sympathetic to the various complaints
being leveled against the War Party in Washington. At
the least, Americans should be asking themselves whether
Iraq does represent a sufficient threat to the United
States necessary for us to risk a world-wide Muslim backlash
against the West by leveling Baghdad. This is especially
the case when we witness such a mad rush toward war by
both Administration hawks and our junior partners in Britain
that these folks have to resort to substantiation for
their actions so patently disingenuous and absurd as to
make any sensible person incredulously demand more proof.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair really went over the
top a few days back in making his own case for attacking
Iraq to the British House of Commons. As it turns out,
Blairs extensive "case" was actually pirated
from academic research and opinion pieces on Iraq. Far
from providing anything remotely close to a "smoking
gun" that would prove Iraq has designs itself on
either attacking American (or British) interests, it actually
seemed to demonstrate that this former great power has
little more than conjecture and circumstantial evidence.
Blair is deservedly under fire in his own land for pulling
such a stunt.
Not to be outdone, Bush Administration officials have
been all over yesterdays apparent tape recording
from Osama bin Laden, claiming it proves a "tie"
between bin Laden and Saddam Husseins regime. Folks,
if you cant see how desperateand absurdthis
propaganda attempt is, youre beyond help! Bin Laden
has no use for Hussein, and said as much; however, he
viewsas do most Muslimsany attack on a Muslim
nation as an attack on the Muslim people worldwide. This
is his war; to bin Laden, Saddam Hussein himself is a
socialist "infidel."
Wareven against such an inconsequential power as
Iraqis a serious matter. It demands serious debate.
Most of the Bush and Blair case, however, falls far short
of this; and when these folks apparently most desirous
of war must resort to such patent subterfuge, conjecture
and innuendo, its time for more of us to ask whether
a bona fide case for war truly exists at all.

Osama Binladen |
|
Hello.
Today I was listening (2/12/03) to the issues surrounding
Iraq and Bin Laden. The problem that I see is the word
"They" people are classifying Al Queda and Iraq in the
same category. BinLaden is the major problem, and needs
to be dealt with. He is a coward and has a legion of followers
who don't know how to interpret their own bible, and ironically
they claim to be working in faith of. people, I think,
don't realize that Iraq may not be the major problem now.
but Iraq is still a danger that has to be addressed, and
they are under the leadership of a homicidal oportunist.
An immediate war may not be the answer but provisions
have to be made to ensure that we aren't letting our guard
down to a future attack from Iraq. I think that what would
best sum up what I am trying to say is America cant be
caught with its pants down. Al Queda is a major problem,
and Iraq is one as well. the two may be different but
they are threats none the less.

An
International Recycling Program
An American is having breakfast one morning (coffee, croissants,
bread, butter and jam) when a Frenchman, chewing gum,
sits down next to him. The American ignores the Frenchman
who, nevertheless, starts a conversation.
French man: "You American folk eat the whole bread??"
American (in a bad mood): "Of course."
French: (after blowing a huge bubble) "We don't.
In France, we only eat what's inside. The crusts we collect
in a container, recycle it, transform them into croissants
and sell them to the states." The Frenchman has a
smirk on his face. The American listens in silence.
The Frenchman persists: "Do you eat jelly with the
bread??"
American: "Of Course."
Frenchman: (cracking his gum between his teeth and chuckling).
"We don't. In France we eat fresh fruit for breakfast,
then we put all the peels, seeds, and leftovers in containers,
recycle them, transform them into jam and sell the jam
to the states."
The American then asks: "Do you have sex in France?"
Frenchman: "Why of course we do", he says with
a big smirk.
American: "And what do you do with the condoms once
you've used
them?"
Frenchman: "We throw them away, of course."
American: "We don't. In America, we put them in a
container, recycle them, melt them down into chewing gum
and sell them to France."

Regards the the impending Iraq conflictt |
|
As
Americans we are all asking should we or shouldn't we...most
of us are in favor of entering Iraq and stopping them
before they have the opportunity to use their weapons
against us or our allies. It is our responsibility to
take the bull by the horns. After listening to your show
today, I was struck by something that one caller said
which made me recall someone and something...the people
on the first two planes that crashed into the twin towers
on Sept. 11 never knew what was happening but because
of the ability to communicate by cell phone the passengers
on the fourth plane had a pretty good idea of what was
going to happen. They didn't need a lot of evidence to
put it all together, nor did they need reassurance and
hand holding...they acted and reacted giving of their
lives to save others. Instead of asking "What would Jesus
do?"...let's ask "What would Todd Beamer do?"...I have
to believe he would say - "Let's roll."

News Bulletin! The French take a stand |
|
PARIS
- In a stunning reversal of policy, French President Jacques
Chirac announced today that the French government will
be supporting the 'War on Terror' after all. Five hundred
soldiers from the elite Battalion du Specialistes d'Abandonnement
(Surrender Specialists) of France's vaunted Armees de
la Terre are preparing for movement to Iraq, where they
will advise the Iraqi Republican Guards on the protocol
of their upcoming surrender to American Armed Forces.
"It is important to be overbearingly haughty and insufferable
when surrendering," said Colonel Philippe Marie-Jeane
Yves-Montand Gauloise du Petite Pommes, commanding officer
of the elite Surrender Specialists, who has personally
surrendered in countless battles dating back to Dien Bien
Phu in 1954. "We French are world masters at surrendering,
n'est c'est pas? Not like you arrogant Americans, who
never surrender. Ha! I spit on your American victories!"
President Chirac also announced that his government will
be sending 3,000 advisors from the elite Force du Collaborateurs
Francaise to assist the Iraqis in avidly collaborating
with the Americans, while pretending to be part of a non-existent
resistance movement.

good afternoon john |
|
i
was tuned in to your show today. i may be a high school
drop out but i think i do have common sense, the president
i feel is doing a very good job ( he did'nt get my vote).
but i think the people fail to see the big picture the
most dangerous weapon iraq has is sadaam the bombs he
my have won't go off unless he says so he should be taken
out as soon as possible, he is a cold blooded calculated
murderer, you can not believe anything he is saying on
the other hand bush can't let everybody know what his
next move is because of the fact that it is the best strategy.
on the state level --
the container port would have been a great plan 20 years
ago but afetr thinking of the possiblitys it can not be
safe for the state of r.i. but i think they fail to see
the danger to the states that have container ports. i'm
in a business i load container for private citizens in
business -- some of the things i put in them are autos
and small trucks, what i see that gets put in after i
finish is boxes of what ever fits -- clothes, appliances,
you name it. what scares me is that other countrys ship
to here also and there not inspecting every container
that hits the ports and if there not who is to say there
isn't a dirty bomb in one of the containers the sea breeze
off the ocean i would think would carry the poison inland
for miles.
but the bottom line no man wants war but i can't see anyway
we could avoid it with sadaam.
you have a good day and i enjoy your show

The MurphWood Regime |
|
Welcome
back I.M. :
I have no quarrel with Iraq being No. 1 on our radar screen
and I fully support the President's determination to disarm
Sadaam one way or another and the sooner the better.
However, after we mop up Sadaam's gang I trust we can
resume scrutinizing the General Assembly, especially the
House under Speaker MurphWood. In the meanwhile, I and
others will keep score of their activities. By the way,
I am encouraged by the first month of Governor Carcieri's
administration and very gratified that Sen. Bill Irons
has chosen an independent path away from the MurphWood/Fox/Menard
Axis of Weasle.
MurphWood's 33 Days Report Card:
- NOT one
single Assembly employee has been discharged
- Dickie
Kearns, HarDwood's $131,000 Facilitator, was released
from his JCLS duties and stays as Chief Counsel..less
work/same pay = RAISE
- The JCLS
checkbook, despite Sen Irons' protestations, remains
closed to public scrutiny while MurphWood proposes an
audit period commencing after Wendy's check was disbursed
instead of going back 10 years as Sen Irons insists
- The Separation
of Powers tap dance continues as The Speaker refuses
to endorse Governor Carcieri's proposed language...watch
for the watering down.....cripes, he won't even agree
to make the Senate equal to the House?
- Two new
expensive hires..Berman and White....under the smoke-screen
of banishing a few Cell Phones...disgraceful
- MurphWood
refuses to make public all employee data such as hours
worked and job descriptions and benefits.
- The Speaker
doesn't have time to digest and act by trimming his
bloated Assembly staff, BUT has time to run a fundraiser
in his first month as Speaker and grab $ 50,000 for
his campaign coffers..and Fox has one planned also.
- No Show
Jobs, Mis-appropriation of Medical Insurance, Mis-apprpriation
of Cell
Phone
Funds, Etc, Etc... somebody wake Attorney General Patrick
Lynch when his 4 years are up please...
So John, many of us are indeed keeping score and we hope
and trust that you are doing so also. We are counting
the days until the Honeymoon for the Puppet Regime of
MurphWood/Fox and Menard is over.

Guests on Iraq 2/10 |
|
The
two guys -the Warwick cop and Naval War College professor-
are fighting the last Gulf War. In '91 we amazed not only
Sadam but our allies with our ability to fight at night
and "see" through dust storms with infrared laser sights
on our M1A1 Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles.
In your guests' wildest dreams do they -and you- think
Sadam is going to fight us in the desert again? This time
he'll hide his T-72s and SAMs beside mosques, hospitals
and schools. By the time the commander gets permission
to fire from the JAG gal in his headquarters the Iraqi
will get a shot or two off. And, in tank warfare, he who
shoots first usually wins. When we fire back and hit a
school or hospital and the charred bodies of kids are
shown on CNN and the Muslim press what happens to world
opinion and our "coalition"? We'll be fighting street
to street and house to house and taking a lot more casualties
this time around. And all these kids who are chomping
at the bit to go will be shitting their pants and crying
for their Mommy when they're hit just like infantrymen
in every war we've ever fought. And how about this scenario:
Sadam has told his generals to watch CNN. When they see
that we have begun our air attack, fire missiles at Israel,
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He knows we hit their command
and control systems first last time. Do you suppose the
Israelis are going to go to the UN for permission to hit
back? Don't get me wrong; I'm in favor of taking Saddam
and his WMD out. The American public better be ready for
the consequences.

The Difference |
|
The
Difference between Democrats and Republicans:
A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street
when they came upon a homeless person. The Republican
gave the homeless person his business card and told him
to come to his business for a job. He then took twenty
dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless
person.
The
Democrat was very impressed, and when they came upon another
homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to
the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare
office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and
took out twenty dollars. He kept fifteen for administrative
fees and gave the homeless person five.
Now
you understand the difference between Republicans and
Democrats.

another taxpayer rip-off from the "hill" |
|
hi
john, did you know that as of jan. 2003, all former legislators
can register their cars at no cost, it is free! actually,
it is on us, the taxpayers! also, when you see an "A'
on legislators license plates, that means "alternate"
which means the wife or another family member also gets
a free registration. so they get two free plates and registrations.
this sounds like it was passed recently, in this time
of budget crunch, they are still thinking of themselves.
just thought i would tell someone.

illegal. Welfare , Special Ed, Food Stamps, S.S.I., Social
Security. But, when it comes to the most brilliant, hard
working , driven people in this country , we cut , cut
,cut their budget! Now their are 7 brave elite people
dead. I`m sad and sick about what this country has turned
into! God rest their souls... Avenger.

Eggbert buying lamps
for Buddy@Home Depot |

JDMan4we:
I
met and teased Richie and a pal last fri. @Prov. H.D.
as noone else would wait on him. Asked him if he knew
the name of the "Greek guy who searched for an HONEST
man"..."Demosthenes!" he blurted-out.."I'm a greek attorney"
he added. "How 'bout that Buddy, eh?" I continued "everybody
on the street knew he was dirty ...you don't get to be
a federal judge without good sources of information"..."We'll
get him out on appeal"...he retorted....we continued with
the business of lamp selection, which he said.."the client's
paying" selecting 7 lamps (pretty big cell Buddy's got!--or
we're helping ourselves I thought). "It must have been
hard to have been a juror" Richie volunteered..."yeah,
sure".

Where is Buddy Cianci |
|
Hi
John, Your show's terrific! I wanted to send a note to
Buddy Cianci. I went to the Fort Dix Federal prison web
site and inmate inventory/directory and they say there's
no such person in residence. The I tried "Vincent A.Cianci,"
no cigar. Do you know how I can find Buddy? I'm in Florida
for the winter (hell of a good choice this year) so I'm
missing the RI radio scene very much. All they talk about
here is national news and then I realized that Providence
radio talks about people and things one can see and feel
the local vibes. I'm going thru withdrawal symptoms this
talk radio wasteland. The people of RI don't know what
a rich cultural experience and treasure they have like
your show. One never miss the water until the well runs
dry. Looking forward to hearing you in the spring! Patrick,

John,
I
was attending a business meeting in Hudson, MA, yesterday
and had to stop at a pharmacy to pick up a few items.
Upon leaving the store at approximately 1:30 PM, I noticed
a bakery truck delivering cookies and pastries to the
pharmacy. The passenger-side door was open and your program
was on the truck's radio! Congratulations! You never know
who is listening!

Audience with the King? |
|
Hey
Nancy!
Boy, you really embarrassed yourself today. Ooh! oohh!
A citizen carries a gun! Big effing deal! Fifty or sixty
million citizens carry concealed firearms every single
day across America without incident.
You're more likely to be killed by lightning than to be
bothered by an armed citizen. Background checks for people
who want to talk to the governor? WTF?
What is he doing that he's so afraid of the citizens?
What does he think, he's the King? He's just a nothing
politician like all the others in this mudpuddle state.
Sheesh!

guns in the state house |
|
Lets
review the facts:
The guy volunteered the fact that he was carring a firearm
for his own protection, he had a permit and willing gave
up his gun to the police before seeing the governor and
Depetro has a problem with that???
The State House police chief personally stated that the
guy was in the right and did everything legally and Depetro
STILL has problem with that???
Every person has the right to self-protection, even in
the State House.
There has NEVER been a gun crime committed by a permit
holder in the history of the State of RI
Maybe Depetro should attack criminals instead of law-abiding
citizens.

Mandela, his bigoted comments |
|
How
sad it was to hear the head of South Africa, Nelson Mandela
making comments of lies and hate against the U.S. and
President Bush. "Bush is not listening to the U.N.
because it`s headed by a black man."ect. Mandela
and his wife Winnie have made comments about white people
not being welcome in Africa. They have had thousands of
thier enemies burned to death. A practice called 'Necklissing'.Hundreds
of white farmers have been butchered by Black Supremacists. The
Press won`t report it, but this guy is no great man. He
is a sick man and very much a racist. Thanks, C.R.C.

Assembly benefits |
|
John;
Two comments based on the Sunday Journal's article "Assembly
paid benefits for non-employees". Fire Ann Marie
Donahue. If this woman didn't have the common sense to
stop an employee's benefits after they were removed from
the payroll, or even ask someone what their status was
and just continue paying Blue Cross thousands of dollars,
then she should be fired! These are the types of State
employees who got their positions not based on what they
know but who they know. They need to GO!
Also, someone needs to tell that intellectual from Brown,
Professor Cornwell, that he "does" work for
us. My tax dollars are paying his salary. What a pompous
ass!! If that's an example of the brain trusts we that
teach at Brown then those parents are wasting their money.

Liberals |

John:
Kerrie
(who is friend's with both Kristen's e-mailed this the
other day). People need to remember how and why this country
was founded. I hope the State of the Union reminded people.
I
want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the
soldier at Valley Forge, as he holds his musket in his
bloody hands. He stands barefoot in the snow, starved
from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and emotionally
scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded
by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands tough,
with fire in his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks
at us now in anger and disgust and tells us this...
I
gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution
and now your children graduate too illiterate to read
it. I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom
to vote and you stay at home because it rains. I left
my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech
and you remain silent on critical issues, because it might
be bad for business. I orphaned my children to give you
a government to serve you and it has stolen democracy
from the people. It's the soldier not the reporter who
gives you the freedom of the press. It's the soldier not
the poet who gives you the freedom of speech. It's the
soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to demonstrate.
It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag,
whose coffin is draped with the flag that allows the protester
to burn the flag!!! "Lord, hold our troops in your loving
hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and
their families for the selfless acts they perform for
us in our time of need. Amen."
Thanks

If
40 states are experiencing huge deficits do you think
the states with the largest deficits would be the ones

Help me figure this out !!! |
|
Hi
John:
Help me figure this out !!! After September 11th, Senators,
Congressman and the common man criticized George Bush
claiming that he had intelligence information prior to
the 11th and did nothing about it. Now, fast forward to
present and here is our President, telling us that he
has definite intelligence information about clear and
present danger - and now that's not good enough - they
want him to wait.
Wait for WHAT? This man cannot win ... where are all of
the red, white & blue flag wavers from the aftermath
of September 11th now?
I am the mother of three sons (22, 20 & 18) - I know
all too well what we may face as a family if they have
a draft. If my nonna could send five of her sons off to
WWII - I can certainly face what I have to as a mother
when I think of the alternative.
God Bless Bless President Bush, our military and the people
of this country who are still proud to be Americans!

Soldiers |
|
Hi
John,
I really don't know where to begin. I know I am sick and
tired of all this war talk. I am tired of the politicians
views. Why don't we get the views of the people all this
really affects. I think the men and women of the military
who are being called up and deployed are not being considered.
At this point I feel there is not going to be a peaceful
solution, that some kind of action is inevidiable. so
lets start concentrating on our men in women in the military.
These soldiers are being uprooted from thier families,
there jobs without questioning the motives. This to them
is thier job and their responsibility as Americans. My
son is one of those soldiers and he has a wife and child.
He doesn't want to leave them, but, like he says he needs
to protect his sons future. He wants his son to have the
same opportunities he has had.
His father and grandfather paved the road thru battle
to create the life he has known and he feels it is his
responsibility to do the same for his son.
As it is 9/11 has already altered the American way, it
will never be the same. Most Americans will never feel
100% safe again. The question is "Do we want future
generations to live in constant fear with this madman
out there?" As a parent, I don't want to go to war
, but, if it happens we need to stand behind our soldiers
and pray for there safe return.

Prof. Beaman |
|
Hi
John-
Why should anyone be surprised that Professor Beaman (sp?)
and Rod Driver have the same view? Someone that teaches
at Brown and someone who hates this country...Prof. Beaman
said that we should continue to CONTAIN Sadaam and that
it has been working. He also said that Sadaam is 69 and
that he would not be alive that much longer. (we could
ONLY HOPE that he won't be alive much longer... maybe
a month!) Containment worked up until now because his
capabilities were not the same as they are now. He's had
time to build up his nuclear, chemical and biological
capabilities and now he's staring the world in the face
with them. Although he's 69 years old, he has his son
to carry on along with his inner circle and terrorist
allies. I've read that his son is worse than he is. With
the weapons of today it's too late to have a reactive
strike.
I
am concerned that we won't get Sadaam just like we haven't
found Osama. Since Sadaam has had so much time to reinforce
his underground barracks, which could be in several locations
in Iraq, how will we find him? What are your thoughts?
And with all Osama's following I don't understand how
we haven't found him either.
Great
shows lately.
My best,
Terri from Newport

Rod Driver |
|
Dear
Mr. DePetro,
I listened to some of your show with Rod Driver the other
day and appreciated hearing his views and researched information
about Iraq and the Bush Administration. I assume that
you and he are well acquanted when you said that he had
been on the show previously. As I was turning off the
show, he mentioned that he had marched in Washington the
previous week in a demonstration agaisnt the the upcoming
war. Instead of supporting his "independent"
stance, you asked if he was a "Communist"! You
will probably probably protest otherwise, as is your wont,
but your intent was trap Mr. Driver into being tagged
as a "fellow traveler" of the Communist Party.
You are too young to remember the McCarthy Hearings but
I am not. Whether said in it jest or not, your audience
would probably not be able to distinguish its intent.
To paraphrase Joseph Welsh's remark to Sen. McCarthy,
Have you no sense of decency, Sir?
Is that how you treat your friends?

"Bomb Iraq" |
|
John:
While the following song doesn't support your views on
the subject, it is pretty amusing. Thought you might enjoy
it. (And since you have little kids I know you will know
the tune.)
Sally (From Jamestown)
If You're Happy And You Know It Bomb Iraq
[Sung
to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It!"]
If
you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.
If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
If the terrorists are frisky,
Pakistanis looking shifty,
North Korea is too risky,
Bomb Iraq.
If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think that someone's dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections,
Let's look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions,
Bomb Iraq.
It's pre-emptive non-aggression, bomb Iraq.
To prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They've got weapons we can't see,
And that's all the proof we need,
If they're not there, they must be there,
Bomb Iraq.
If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam's gone mad,
With the weapons that he had,
And he tried to kill your dad,
Bomb Iraq.
If corporate fraud is growin', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin', bomb Iraq.
If your politics are sleazy,
And hiding that ain't easy,
And your manhood's getting queasy,
Bomb Iraq.
Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
Disagree? We'll call it treason,
Let's make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason,
Bomb Iraq.

USS Liberty on TV |
|
I
was surprised when a friend told me that Tito Howard's
recent video, "Loss of Liberty," was airing
on Cox Cable Channel 18 ("Public Access" in
RI) this afternoon.
A few months ago Carole and I attended a showing in New
London of this video about the Israeli attack on the USS
Liberty on June 8, 1967. At the showing we met producer
Tito Howard, Admiral Staring and Liberty survivor Bill
LeMay. Mr. Howard had worked for years researching, acquiring
archival material -- including video comments by Dean
Rusk which I had never seen or heard before -- and editing
the finished product.
I don't know who arranged to get this video aired in RI.
But Channel 18 is scheduled to run it again tomorrow,
Jan. 30, at 9:30 PM. If you haven't seen it, this is a
rare opportunity to watch or videotape it. (I think it
runs about 55 minutes.)

Bush Speech / Iraq |
|
Keep
up the good work John! These people that think this is
a choice to contain Hussein or not contain him are in
dreamland. He must be stopped and now.
Bush nailed it last night. That laundry list of weapons,
chemicals and other assorted deadly nerve gases that Saddam
Hussein had and was supposed to destroy goes on and on.
And for those who think he has not escalated production
of those materials since the last time we were allowed
to look around, well I'm afraid they are sadly mistaken.
Bush also was right on the money in mentioning what the
real role of the inspectors should be. It is verifying
what SH has, not sneaking around all over the country
trying to find what he has. It is also to verify what
he was supposed to have destroyed. It was also very important
information for the general public to understand fully
that SH continues to thumb his nose at the UN.
Even Blix has now said that the regime in Iraq doesn't
seem to understand that to be any less than forthcoming
at this hour is madness.
I'm not a war monger..I am a 55 year old, early retired,
white female, married with no children. But I did live
through the Vietnam era and lost friends. I know people
who lost family in the Gulf War. I am also very aware
that any endeavor of this magnitude will cause hardship
and lose for many families. That should not deter us from
a cause that is right and just!
Yesterday on your program Tom called in....always a well
thought out presentation. I agree with him. Our mandate
(overused word, but I can't think of another one right
now) in this country is to help build democracies world
wide. For those who say that we need to let these terrorist
countries develop their own policies I again agree with
Tom. We have fought two world wars fighting against the
twisted policies of the European continent. And we prevailed.
Are they better today than before that action. You bet!
The ultimate result of this effort is peace. World Peace.

Fw: THE JUST WAR THEORY |
|
YOUR
FARCICAL, THEATRICAL PRODUCTION USING CATHOLOCISM AND
BIBLICAL QUOTATIONS ON TUESDAY'S PROGRAM TO SUPPORT AN
IRAQI WAR WAS AN AFFRONT TO CATHOLICS AND ALL CHRISTIANS.
DO SOME IN-DEPTH READING. GET OUT OF MAINSTREAM MEDIA
RESOURCES AND USE SOME THINK-TANK INFORMATION TO FORM
YOUR OPINIONS. YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO CATHOLICS.
HAVE YOU EVER READ "THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER"?
JANUARY 26,
2003
JUST WAR THEORY:
THESE PRINCIPLES WERE DEVELOPED EARLY IN THE TRADITION
AS A WAY OF MITIGATING, AT LEAST IN PART, THE BRUTALITY
OF WARFARE AS IT HAS BEEN EXPERIENCED THROUGH THE AGES.
Numerous writers etal have expressed the belief that the
proposed war on Iraq falls well short of meeting these
principles.
PRINCIPLE ONE: REQUIRES THE IMMUNITY OF NONCOMBATANTS.
IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT THE WEAPONS OF MODERN WARFARE RESULT
IN INDISCRIMINATE INJURY TO CIVILIAN POPULATIONS, SO MUCH
SO THAT MANY HAVE SAID THAT WARFARE IS NO LONGER JUSTIFIED
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. It has already been announced
that the planned invasion of Iraq will be preceded by
intensive bombardment. There will be massive injury to
civilians, both directly and through further destruction
of the infrastructure. The Iraq war fails this test.
PRINCIPLE TWO: REQUIRES PROPORTIONALITY BETWEEN COST AND
BENEFIT; THAT IS, THAT THE RESULTING HARM WILL BE BALANCED
BY APPROXIMATELY EQUAL RESULTING GOOD. In an Iraq war
the devastation will surely be great, as will the economic
cost to the U.S. and to Iraq. The resulting benefit will
be doubtful, at best--the replacement of the present regime
by a more friendly one of uncertain stability. The Iraq
war fails this test as well.
PRINCIPLE THREE: REQUIRES THAT THE WAR HAVE A REASONABLE
CHANCE OF SUCCESS, A PRINCIPLE INTENDED TO DISCOURAGE
DECLARATION OF WAR IMPULSIVELY. MUCH DEPENDS ON WHAT ONE
CONSIDERS SUCCESS. Much depends on what one considers
success, but even the relatively modest goal of removing
the present regime is not certain to be accomplished and
success in establishing a stable and peaceful government
through warfare seems highly unlikely. To the contrary,
an attack is certain to inspire renewed terrorist activity
at home and abroad. So the Iraq war fails this test also.
FINAL PRINCIPLE: REQUIRES THAT WAR BE A LAST RESORT, AFTER
OTHER MEANS HAVE FAILED. It seems clear thatr in the conflict
with Iraq, diplomatic and other means have not been exhausted.
Rather, the current negotiations have already been preceded
by ten years of bombing and economic sanctions which may
themselves be considered acts of war. The U.S. policy
sems to be to attack first and negotiate later, a clear
violation of the JUST WAR PRINCIPLES.
BY ALL OF THESE TESTS, THE PROPOSED IRAQ WAR WOULD FAIL.
THE RHETORIC OF THE PROPOSED WAR WILL CALL IT A WAR IN
A JUST CAUSE, A WAR OF GOOD AGAINST EVIL, A WAR AGAINST
TERRORISM. BUT WARS ARE NOT FOUGHT AGAINST AN ABSTRACTION
LIKE TERRORISM. THIS WILL BE A WAR AGAINST THE NATION
AND PEOPLE OF IRAQ AND IT WILL BE A WAR WHICH IS IMMORAL

Thank you

If I could

Perhaps a party switch to better serve our state?

Hi

Just had to write after hearing John Chafee. I almost
had to turn the dial because just the sound of his voice
makes me ill!!! I don't know why he just doesn't change

except that he says it in that WIMPY way.
I don't understand why people don't see that Sadaam HAD
TONS of bio and chemical weapons just a few years ago
as reported by the inspectors. WHERE ARE THEY? What more
information do they need?!!! The repercussions of not
dealing with this will only commit millions of more Americans
to die if people don't wake up.
Some idiot is talking about people liking Sadaam!
Need to go for now because my blood is boiling.

SuperBowl in perspective |
|
John,
I rec'd this from an old friend in San Diego, I thought
you might appreciate it.
Dave
-------------------------
Sports Columnist Bryan Burwell
- The Super Bowl in Perspective
SAN DIEGO - It was just around midnight Tuesday night,
and the outdoor courtyard at Dick's Last Resort was throbbing
with the rowdy energy of a spring break bacchanal. There
was loud rock music blaring out of the stereo speakers,
and the air was filled with the distinct and somewhat
revolting aroma of deep-fried bar food, cigarette smoke
and spilled beer Dick's is the sort of bar-restaurant
ideally suited for Super Bowl week mischief, because it
has a down-and-dirty roadhouse feel to it. The waiters,
waitresses and bartenders are charmingly rude, and the
wood floors are covered with sand and all sorts of indistinguishable
debris. The clientele on this evening is a fascinating
mix of twenty-something college kids, thirty-something
conventioneers and 40-something Super Bowl high-rollers.
Yet there was one table in Dick's courtyard Tuesday night
that was noticeably different from the others. There were
six young men at the table and one young woman, and while
they were drinking like everyone else in the room, there
was something all too serious going on at this table that
let you know that their thoughts were a long way from
the mindless frivolity of Super Bowl week. Maybe it was
the close-cropped "barracks haircuts" that gave them away.
All the men's heads were cut in that familiar look of
a professional soldier, skin-close on the sides, and on
top a tight shock of hair that resembled new shoe-brush
bristles. "We're Marines," one man told me. "And tomorrow
we're boarding a ship for...well...I really can't tell
you where, but you know." Of course we knew. In less than
an hour, they would report back to a ship docked along
the Southern California coast, then on Wednesday head
across the Pacific Ocean, bound for a potential war in
Iraq. So this was no Super Bowl party for them. This was
their last night out on the town. One Marine was saying
goodbye to his wife. The others were not so lucky. They
all just sat around the table, throwing back beers and
wrestling with the sobering uncertainty of the rest of
their lives. "We're going to war and none of us knows
if we're ever coming back," said another Marine, a 28-year-old
from Southern Illinois. They all requested that I not
use their names. "Just tell 'em we're the men of (Marine
Aviation Land Support Squad 39)," they said.
On
Super Bowl Sunday, the men of MALS 29 will be watching
the game from the mess hall of their ship. "That is, if
we're lucky and the weather is good and it doesn't interfere
with the satellite signal," said the Marine with the bald
head and burnt-orange shirt. "But I gotta tell you, I'm
not that big a sports fan anymore. It's going to be the
first pro football game I've watched in...I can't even
remember." Why is that? "Well, here's my problem with
pro sports today," he said. "I don't care whether it's
football, basketball or baseball. Guys are complaining
about making $6 million instead of $7 million, and what
is their job? Playing a damned game. You know what I made
last year? I made $14,000. They pay me $14,000, and you
know what my job description is? I'm paid to take a bullet."
When he said those words, it positively staggered me.
Fourteen thousand dollars to take a bullet. Not a day
goes by that I am not reminded of what a wonderful life
I lead. I am paid to write about sports and tell stories
on radio and television about the games people play. But
sometimes, even in the midst of a grand sporting event,
something happens to put the frivolity of sports into
its proper perspective, and this was it. Fourteen thousand
dollars to take a bullet.
As
I sit here writing from my hotel room, I can look out
my balcony window and I see a Navy battleship cutting
through the San Diego Bay, heading out to sea. I can see
the sailors standing on the deck as the ship sails past
Coronado Island, the San Diego Marina and the downtown
Seaport Village, and I wonder if any of the men from MALS
39 are aboard.
It
was only 12 hours ago that I was sitting at the table
with my guys, buying them beers, and listening to their
soldier stories. The Marine from Southern Illinois who
sat to my right pointed to the bald Marine in the orange
shirt who was seated to my left. "You know, I don't even
know this guy, can you believe that? We just met a few
hours ago when we came into Dick's. Oh, I've seen him
on the base, but I've never met him before tonight. But
here's what's so special about that man, and why I love
that man. He's my brother. Semper Fi. I know a guy back
home, and he is my best friend. I'm 28 years old and we've
known each other all our lives. But today, that friend
is more of a stranger to me than that Marine sitting over
there, whom I've never met before tonight. That's why
they call it a "Band of Brothers." The little Marine in
the orange shirt lifted his glass toward the Marine from
Southern Illinois and nodded his head. "That's right,"
he said. "That's my brother over there, and I'm gonna
take a bullet for him if I have to."
He
said it with a calm and jolting certainty. There was a
moving, but chilling, pride in his words. All around them,
people were drinking, shouting and laughing. The college
kids and the conventioneers and NFL high-rollers were
living the good, carefree life. Across the street, a storefront
that was vacant two weeks ago was now filled with $30
caps, $400 leather jackets, $40 mugs and $27 T-shirts
with the fancy blue and yellow Super Bowl XXXVII logo
embroidered on it. From every end of the streets of downtown
San Diego's fabled Gaslamp Quarter, Super Bowl revelers
toasted the Raiders and the Bucanneers with grog-sized
mugs filled with beers and rums. But just around midnight
in the middle of the courtyard of Dick's Last Resort,
a far more deserving toast was going up to the men of
MALS 39. We clicked our glasses together, and a few minutes
later, they quietly slipped out the courtyard gates. Suddenly,
the Super Bowl didn't seem so important anymore.

Opposing view on Iraq |
|
John,
As an avid listener to your program, I am dissappointed
on your insistence to try and convince every caller and
political guest that your view on Iraq, and how to handle
the situation, is the only logical path to a resolution.
The whole time I sat there and watched President Bush
speak of the "State" of the union, I wondered what the
hell he was talking about. I will let the following article
speak for itself. Please don't dismiss the author's opinion,
your children's future is at stake.
Sincerly,
Jim Matta
A
Reveille, Not a Record The state of our union is ... unmentionable.
By
William Saletan
Posted Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at 9:40 PM PT
If
you went to the refrigerator during the first three minutes
of President Bush's State of the Union address, you missed
the part where he discussed the state of the union. After
a few words about his record on the economy, education,
corporate responsibility, and homeland security, Bush
spent the rest of the hour outlining plans and promises.
It was the kind of speech a president gives when he's
been in office two weeks, not two years Why didn't Bush
talk about the state of the union? Because the state of
the union is nothing to talk about. The stock market is
in the toilet. The economy is going nowhere. Unemployment
is up. The deficit is out of control. Remember those State
of the Union speeches Bill Clinton gave? The guy couldn't
stop quoting happy numbers. That's one problem Bush doesn't
have. As a president and orator, Bush has two great strengths:
moral clarity and resolve. To the Iraqi people, he declared,
"Your enemy is not surrounding your country; your enemy
is ruling your country." To anti-war relativists, he observed
of Saddam Hussein's atrocities, "If this is not evil,
then evil has no meaning." To the country and the world,
he vowed: "Free people will set the course of history.
... The course of this nation does not depend on the decisions
of others. ... We will prevail." When Bush talks like
that, he doesn't just send chills down people's spines.
He puts steel in them. That's the good news. The bad news
is the way Bush ducked the bad news. In discussing foreign
policy, Bush laid out a tough standard: "America's purpose
is more than to follow a process. It is to achieve a result."
The result to be achieved was "the end of terrible threats
to the civilized world." By that standard, he suggested,
the U.N. inspection process was failing. To prove that
this process was succeeding, said Bush, Saddam would have
to give "evidence" of progress in disarmament. From the
absence of such evidence, Bush concluded that Saddam "has
much to hide." By that standard, Bush, too, has failed.
The state of the union isn't a process. It's a result.
Yet in the few minutes Bush spent on what he had "accomplished,"
he spoke of processes, not results. "To lift the standards
of our public schools, we achieved historic education
reform," he said. "To protect our country, we reorganized
our government. ... To bring our economy out of recession,
we delivered the largest tax relief in a generation. To
insist on integrity in American business, we passed tough
reforms. ...Some might call this a good record. I call
it a good start." Record? That isn't a record. It's an
agenda. An agenda is the measures you enact: education
reform, a Homeland Security department, tax relief, corporate
oversight reform. A record is what those measures are
supposed to accomplish: lifting public schools, protecting
the country, ending the recession, improving corporate
integrity. By inserting these hypothetical achievements
at the beginning of each sentence about his agenda, Bush
made them sound real. They aren't. His education bill
remains unfunded. The corporate reforms he signed were
watered down. The first Secretary of Homeland Security
was sworn in four days ago. And the economy is still a
wreck. What Bush said of Saddam's disarmament record could
equally be said of Bush's domestic record. He has given
no evidence of progress. He must have much to hide.

I
am proud to be a Jewish American. Until September 11 2001
I was what some would call a Liberal- Leftist. No longer

I beg to differ. They are all of that . They are all front

Israel is at stake. In World War 2 the U.S. found millions
of Jews murdered. The U.S. WILL NOT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!!!

highly offended |

Dear
John,
As
an Italo-American, I was highly offended by your remarks
that after an asian bookmaker was arrested. You said,
"They should leave him alone and go up Federal Hill and
arrest some Italians."
This to me was a racist and bigoted statment. As an anology,
if a large group of black students were absent from an
inner city school, would you say go to the basketball
courts and that's where you would find them? I doubt it
very much. Furthur more you bill yourself as "independent
this" and "independent that", you know what you need?
An "independent slap" to your "independent face".

Business District in Arctic (West Warwick) --
an oxymoron! |
|
John, Almost
every day in the West Bay edition of the Providence Journal,
I read about plans to spend big money to revitalize the
Arctic business district in West Warwick. Gimme a break,
in this old mill town with its close proximity to the Warwick
shopping malls and the Route 2 superstores-- will anything
positive ever surface? It seems like a hopeless proposition.
Even with taxbreaks, who in their right mind would locate
a business there? It's laughable yet sad! When the old-timers
remind me of how crowded Main St. used to be with shoppers
in the 40s and 50s--- I remind them that the 5&10 and drugstores
with soda fountains are no longer popular shopping destinations.

MR.
DEPETRO
MR. DRIVER
MY ONLY COMMENDATION TO MR. DEPETRO IS THAT HE DID GIVE
YOU AIRTIME, MR. DRIVER, AND THEN EXTENDED YOUR TIME ON
RADIO. HAD YOU BEEN VIEWING THE PROGRAM ON TV, "I
LOVE LUCY" IMMEDIATELY PROVIDED WHAT MOST OF MR.
DEPETRO'S AUDIENCE APPEAR TO CHERISH... ENTERTAINMENT.
I HAVE DISAGREED WITH YOU IN THE PAST, MR. DRIVER, BUT
I FOUND YOUR PRESENTATION TO BE INFORMATIVE. I COMMEND
YOU FOR THE PROFESSIONAL MANNER IN WHICH YOU HANDLED TODAY'S
PROGRAM AND THOSE I HAVE HEARD IN THE PAST ON WHJJ AND
WPRO. I ESPECIALLY NOTE THE COMFORT LEVEL YOU MAINTAIN
IN THE FACE OF EMOTIONAL OUTBURST.
HOW UNFORTUNATE THAT PRIME DAYTIME AIRTIME ON A MAJOR
RHODE ISLAND RADIO STATION IS DOMINATED BY A SECOND RATE
"TALK SHOW/ENTERTAINMENT" HOST.
WHETHER YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THE GUEST, BROADCAST
JOURNALISM CLASS 101 INSTRUCTS..... THAT WHEN AN ASSESSMENT
OF THE GUEST REVEALS A DEPTH OF BACKGROUND INFORMATION,
A MEASURED RESPONSE/QUERY APPROACH, A CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT
PERSONAL ATTACKS WILL NOT PROVOKE HIM/HER TO RESPOND IN
KIND........THE MARK OF THE INFORMED, COMPETENT MODERATOR
IS OBVIOUS ... HE/SHE AVOIDS UNNECESSARY INTERRUPTIONS,
USES A MODULATED TONE, AND FOLLOWS LOGICAL (AS IN "LOGIC",
MR. DEPETRO) RESPONSE/QUERY DISCUSSION.
AS YOU KNOW, MR. DRIVER, I HAVE DISAGREED WITH YOU IN
THE PAST ABOUT CERTAIN POLITICAL ISSUES. BUT WHEN YOU,
WHO HAVE SPENT MOST OF YOUR ADULT LIFE ESPOUSING THE RIGHTS
OF THOSE WHO ARE AND HAVE BEEN POLITICALLY OPPRESSED AROUND
THE GLOBE IN SUCH A CALM, ARTICULATE, NON-CONFRONTATIONAL
MANNER... WHEN YOU ARE SUBJECTED TO A HOST WHO HAS SHOWN
TO ME, IN THE FEW YEARS I HAVE LIVED IN RHODE ISLAND,
THAT HE "IS OUT FOR THE RATINGS"... IT IS, INDEED,
UNFORTUNATE THAT YOU HAVE SUCH LIMITED CHOICES IN GAINING
AIR COVERAGE.
MR. DEPETRO, YOUR SNIDE VOICE OF DERISION, WHEN REFERRING
TO THE PROTESTORS WHO WENT TO D.C., WAS NOTED. I WOULD
LIKE TO DISABUSE YOU OF THE NOTION THAT "THEY WERE
ALL COMMUNISTS". MANY ITALIAN AMERICANS FROM PROVIDENCE
COLLEGE JOINED THOUSANDS OF MULTI-ETHNIC COLLEGE STUDENTS
FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. TWO OF MY IRISH-AMERICAN NIECES
JOINED THEM, AS WELL... HARDLY COMMUNISTS... MEMBERS OF
"PAX CHRISTI" INSTEAD. I DO HOPE THAT YOU REMEMBER
FROM OUR COMMON CATHOLIC EDUCATION WHAT THE GROUP, "PAX
CHRISTI" IS, MR. DEPETRO. PROBABLY NOT!!!
IT BECAME OBVIOUS THAT YOU DID NOT READ THE PAPERS THOROUGHLY
TO LEARN OF THE "GREAT CROSS-SECTION" OF AMERICANS
WHICH JOURNEYED TO OUR CAPITOL TO PROTEST. A GLANCE AT
THE HEADLINES WOULD HAVE SUFFICED. PLEASE DISABUSE YOUR
RADIO AUDIENCE OF THIS MISINFORMATION IN YOUR FUTURE PROGRAMS.
MR. DEPETRO, DO YOU REMEMBER "THE JUST WAR THEORY"?...
ALSO PART OF THE THOROUGH CATHOLIC EDUCATION I RECEIVED
IN THE PHILADELPHIA AREA. PROBABLY NOT!!! I SUGGEST THAT
YOU CHECK IT OUT.
YOU SEEM TO BE WILLINGLY A PART OF THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA
MADNESS WHICH HELPED TO ELECT A PRESIDENT SOLELY BECAUSE
THEY WANTED THE U.S. TO GO TO WAR.
WE WILL NOT GO TO WAR! AND WHAT A SCANDAL THAT HUNDREDS
OF THOUSANDS OF YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN ARE LEAVING THEIR
HOMES, FAMILIES, JOBS AND COUNTRY FOR "THE BIG BLUFF"
!! AND YOU ARE PART OF THE BIG BLUFF.
I MAY DISAGREE WITH MR. DRIVER ON MANY ISSUES BUT TO WATCH
HIM AND MANY OTHER PEOPLE OF INTEGRITY, WHO HAVE A GREAT
BACKGROUND OF EXPERIENCE AND INFORMATION WHICH IS NOT
PRIVY TO THE AVERAGE AMERICAN, BEING DISMISSED AND OPENLY
DERIDED; I MUST SPEAK OUT!
I RARELY LISTEN TO YOUR PROGRAM, MR. DEPETRO, AS YOU MIGHT
GUESS, BUT I DO CHECK OUT THE GUESTS. I WOULD CALL BUT
I DISLIKE BEING CONSTANTLY INTERRUPTED.

America !!!!!!!! |
|
This
says it all!
After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion
and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her driver's
license with her face covered this is an editorial written
by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper.
He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS,
NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying
about whether we are offending some individual or their
culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have
experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans.
However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled
when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining
about the possibility that our patriotism was offending
others.
I am not against
immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who
is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population
is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants.
However, there are a few things that those who have recently
come to our country, and apparently some born here, need
to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural
community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and
our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture,
our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.
This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles,
trials, and victories by millions of men and women who
have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH,
not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian,
or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become
part of our society, learn the language!
"In God
We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some
Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this
motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles,
founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It
is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of
our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider
another part of the world as your new home, because God
is part of our culture.
If Stars and
Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then
you should seriously consider a move to another part of
this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no
desire to change, and we really don't care how you did
things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land,
and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every! citizen
the right to express his opinion and we will allow you
every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining,
whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national
motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take
advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT
TO LEAVE.
If you agree
-- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it!
AMEN
I figure if we all keep passing this to our freinds (and
enemies) it will also ,sooner or later get back to the
complainers, lets all try, please.

Iraq |
|
God
bless you John, for devoting your valuable showtime to
this most crucial topic.
Recently the
History Channel ran a very impressive documentary series
on Gulf War I and what Saddam is currently doing to further
destroy our country and our people. According to this
report, he posesses enormous stockpiles of bio and chem
weapons, in addition to the development of nuclear. For
example: all it would take to kill 50,000 people (not
3,000) in an area somewhere in any big city, is for the
smallpox bacteria loaded into the vacuum of a fountain
pen brought across our borders by one of his appointed
murderer's, released into the atmosphere. This highly
contagious disease would in turn be passed on and contracted
by 5 others. The loss of life, tragic as it was on 9/11,
would pale by comparison!
Wake up America!! Remember, we are NOT the enemy!
Thank you
again John and don't give up! Your message could help
save thousands!

Weapons of mass destruction? |

Weapons
of mass destruction?
I am so tired of hearing this phrase. It's a nice catchall.
I'd feel MUCH better if G.Bush would just say, we're going
to attack Iraq to make an example of them. We'll take
their oil, they'll be properly compensated of course and
anyone else who messes w/US will get the same thing. The
"weapons" thing is just a lot of crap. We have the ability
to photograph EVERY sqare foot of the country right down
to someones hand. There's NO WAY anything is being done
w/out our knowing, so if there was, we'd be able to offer
proof. Iraq has YET to be directly linked to ANY Al Quaeda
groups despite the thousands of arrests that have occurred
around the world. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Iraq,
I just don't think they are that dangerous to this mighty
nation, and I find it insulting to be told they are. What's
the most popular country connected to the A.Q.? You got
it -- Saudi Arabia. But they're our friends? No, ONLY
the ruling family is. And not even all of THEM like us.
They've been connected to terrorists man many times. Sending
$$ to the palestininan terrorist, sending people to Afghanistan
DURING the campaign. Yet we say very little about this...
why? I'd like to know. The most popular name given to
newborn boys in Pakistan after 9-11... Osama. This country
is supposedly a big ally. Who's the real enemy here. Do
it or don't, just don't piss down my neck and tell me
it's raining!

In response to the response of my response. I am in my
late twenties and happen to be in a successful touring
original rock band. (though I love publicity for my band,
I'll refrain from naming names) I have seen just about
anything you could imagine associated with the rock and
roll lifestyle. I'm far from a prude, but I'll admit I
played bingo as a kid. Maybe you should allow drinking
at the BKC, you people take yourselves way too seriously.

One last response
to this post. "Scratch's" response is "queer".
Didnt he say they do not screen anyone for HIV or other
communicable diseases? Wouldn't that be part of someone's
history?
Also, he refers
to the BKC as if it is a "mainstream" pastime
like hockey, live music or theater, though I am sure I
could come up with some semantic similarities. I am sure
I wouldn't feel comfortable sitting on the BKC sofas or
"love seats" so, in the words of Jerry Seinfeld,
"I don't want to be an orgy guy or have orgy friends".

Chaos in Cranston |
|
Hi
John,
I wanted to
comment on the note dated January 18 from "Chaos
in Cranston". I was disappointed to read someone
characterize The Black Key Club as 'a group of strangers
with no histories, medical screening, or identities'.
The Black Key Club is a community and we screen very carefully.
No one is admitted to the club without a written application
and an extensive interview (conducted by one of our membership
committee). There are no 'strangers' at the Black Key
Club, unlike your local sports bar, where the only thing
you need for admission is a fake I.D. and the cover charge.
Unlike many bars or sporting events, there is no drunkenness
or violence at the Black Key Club. Unlike many nightclubs,
there is no drug use at the Black Key Club. These things
are due to the fact that we do have a history of everyone
there and we do know everyone's identity.
Chaos concludes
by saying "Our state is rich with arts, culture,
and music of all kinds", and I agree. The Black Key
Club is one of many, many things you could do with a Saturday
night. If you think it's something you might enjoy, please
talk to us about attending. If it's something that's not
for you, Chaos, then don't come. I like museums and I
don't like hockey games, so I go to one and not the other
-- but I don't characterize someone who likes something
I don't as 'a major creep'.

Subject: Something to think about.
Subject: Washington Times, denouncing the pay raise(s)
coming
I think this Airman's response to the Washington Times
should be
printed in all newspapers across America. Especially now
when the President is calling up more Reserves and National
Guardsman. Get this response out to everyone you know.
It's time the Jane Fonda's & Shaun Penn's, and Cindy
Williams' of this country wise up and support the troops
that defend them.
Noel Pritzl
1st Vice President USDR
Military pay article
On 12 Nov, Ms Cindy Williams (from Laverne and Shirley
TV show) wrote a piece for the Washington Times, denouncing
the pay raise(s) coming servicemembers' way this year-citing
that the stated 13% wage was more than they deserve.
A young airman from Hill AFB responds to her article below.
He ought to get a bonus for this!
"Ms Williams:
I just had the pleasure of reading your column, "Our
GIs earn enough" and I am a bit confused. Frankly,
I'm wondering where this vaunted overpayment is going,
because as far as I can tell, it
disappears every month between DFAS (The Defense Finance
and Accounting Service) and my bank account. Checking
my latest leave and earnings statement (LES), I see that
I make $1,117.80 before taxes. After taxes, I take home
$874.20. When I run that through Windows' Calculator,
I come up with an
annual salary of $13,413.60 before taxes, and $10,490.40
after.
I work in the Air Force Network Control Center (AFNCC),
where I am part of the team responsible for the administration
of a 5,000-host computer network. I am involved with infrastructure
segments, specifically with Cisco Systems equipment. A
quick check under jobs for Network Technicians in the
Washington, D.C. area reveals a position in my career
field, requiring three years experience with my job. Amazingly,
this job does NOT pay $13,413.60 a year, nor does it pay
less than this. No, this job
is being offered at $70,000 to $80,000 per annum. I'm
sure you can draw the obvious conclusions.
Also, you tout increases to Basic Allowance for Housing
and
Basic Allowance for Subsistence (housing and food allowances,
respectively) as being a further boon to an already overcompensated
force.
Again, I'm curious as to where this money has gone, as
BAH and BAS were both slashed 15% in the Hill AFB area
effective in January 00.
Given the tenor of your column, I would assume that you
have
NEVER had the pleasure of serving your country in her
armed forces. Before you take it upon yourself to once
more castigate congressional and DOD leadership for attempting
to get the families in the military's lowest pay brackets
off AFDC, WIC, and food stamps, I suggest that you join
a group of deploying
soldiers headed for AFGHANISTAN, I leave the choice of
service branch up to you. Whatever choice you make, though,
opt for the SIX month rotation: it will guarantee you
the longest possible time away from your family and friends,
thus giving you full "deployment experience."
As your group prepares to board the plane, make sure to
note the spouses and children who are saying good-bye
to their loved ones. Also take care to note that several
families are still unsure of how they'll be able to make
ends meet while the primary breadwinner is gone-obviously
they've been squandering the vast piles of cash the DOD
has been giving them.
Try to deploy over a major holiday; Christmas and Thanksgiving
are perennial favorites.
And when you're actually over there, sitting in a DFP
(Defensive
Fire Position, the modern-day foxhole), shivering against
the cold
desert night; and the flight sergeant tells you that there
aren't enough people on shift to relieve you for chow,
remember this: trade whatever MRE (meal-ready-to-eat)
you manage to get for the tuna noodle casserole or cheese
tortellini, and add Tabasco to everything. This gives
some flavor.
Talk to your loved ones as often as you are permitted;
it won't nearly be long enough or often enough, but take
what you can get and be thankful for it. You may have
picked up on the fact that I disagree with most of the
points you present in your op-ed piece.
But, tomorrow from KABUL, I will defend to the death your
right to say it. You see, I am an American fighting man,
a guarantor of your First Amendment rights and every other
right you cherish. On a daily basis, my brother and sister
soldiers worldwide ensure that you and people like you
can thumb your collective nose at us, all on a salary
that is nothing short of pitiful and under conditions
that would make most people cringe.
We hemorrhage our best and brightest into the private
sector because we can't offer the stability and pay of
civilian companies. And you, Ms Williams, have the gall
to say that we make more than we deserve?
Rubbish!
A1C Michael Bragg, Hill AFB AFNCC"
IF YOU AGREE, PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO AS MANY PEOPLE
AS POSSIBLE AND SHOW OUR SUPPORT OF THE AMERICAN FIGHTING
MEN AND WOMEN. THANK YOU.
THIS LETTER SHOULD BE APPLAUDED BY ANYONE WHO'S EVER SERVED
OR HAD A FAMILY MEMBER SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES! THIS
YOUNG MAN DESERVES A MEDAL!

REGARDING YOUR PROGRAM ON ABORTION |
|
If
anyone thinks a baby is NOT a baby/human being at conception
they better think again. Once the sperm and the egg are
united life begins. All growth begins. There is a lettle
heart in there beating and blood flowing thru it's veins
as it slowly takes the shape little human being. When
a woman first misses her time of the month what does she
say "I am having a baby even at that early stage
of the pregnancy she refers to it as a "baby".
I feel very strongly that life DOES BEGIN AT CONCEPTION.
Think about it.
When I was
17 I got pregnant and my Dad got some pills for me to
abort my baby. My boyfriend at the time who later became
my spouse took those pills and flushed them down the toilet.
Needless to say the baby I carried did not turn out to
be an Einstein but rather chose and still chooses to spend
most of his life incarcerated. He has never disrespected
me, just has no respect the possessions of others.
I pray everyday that God will turn him around but at 38
now I am losing hope. He is very smart but does not put
his knowledge to good use.
That is all
I have to say on the subject.

David
Jones did a good job filling in.
Just wondering where on the web can I go to find out what
happened with him at WSNE? A caller mentioned it yesterday...they
were sorry to hear that he was no longer at the station.
His reply was... so was he.
Keep up the good work John. The cell phones are disappearing
over at the (Little) Boy's Club according to this mornings
Projo.. I guess we are going to have to embarrass these
new guys into leadership roles.
And this seating issue.. just makes my hair hurt. There
should be no special treatment for longevity. You are
there to do the people's business and if that isn't enough
for you, then get out! Let someone run who wants to work
for the people of Rhode Island and not just to fatten
their own bank account at taxpayer expense.
If one of these smucks wants to show some brass...give
the house budgets back, tell the legislators they have
one week to come back with cuts of 25% or more and if
they don't do it then the leadership will and they will
have to live with it. That is leadership..not pandering.

Re: The Black Key Club Segment 1/18/03 |
|
Well
we are all certainly entitled to our opinion. My opinion
in reply to this person who was offended by the segment
on The Black Key Club is... if it bothers you so much...
then go play bingo or something! You see there are people
in this world who are open and honest with their mates
and enjoy sexual relations with others. I too once used
to be a prude with many jealousies and insecurities until
one day decided to be free. Once we entered the lifestyle
my husband and I found that we have become stronger in
our relationship. Every human has had at one time or another
been attracted to another and some cheat behind their
mates backs. It is so much better never ever having to
worry about unfaithfulness in our marriage. Bottom line
is that this lifestyle is not for everyone. Some just
are too damn insecure, jealous and uptight to expand their
horizons. I know... I used to be one of those people,
but now that I am a swinger I am no longer restrained
:-) It's a very good feeling! We are happy and in our
opinion that's all that matters. One more thing... Scratch
is far from a CREEP! I can say this because I KNOW him...
so don't call people names or knock the lifestyle if you
have never met or spoken with Scratch and you have absolutely
no clue about swinging.
Aggravated in Massachusetts!
P.S. Who ever said that you have to swing with strangers
with no histories etc.. etc... Some do, but we like to
get to know people first before having sex with them and
develop friendships with one couple at a time. You certainly
have no clue as to what this is about....sweetheart I
could teach you a lot ;-)

A Request |
|
John,
As a long time listener and occasional "contributor",
I have a request. You have been running a very effective
anti-drug PSA for awhile with the tagline: "It's
not pestering...it's parenting. Questions, they're the
anti-drug." As with an old rock song that has a lyric
you just can't understand (and you lose your mind over
trying to figure it out each time the song is played),
the spot has such a line in it for me. The parents are
talking about the activities of their children and one
says: "His chemistry teacher spits when she hugs."
Now, that can't be right??? Is there anyone at the station
who can make out that line and put me out of my misery?
I went so far as to e-mail The Partnership for a Drug
Free America with this same question. They have not responded.
They probably think I'm a fruitcake. That may be, but
that's not the issue.
A little help.......

Has the Lawn Mower Sheriff Been Fired Yet? |
|
I've
heard you talk about that lawn mowert repair sheriff from
Bristol. Has he been fired yet? I haven't heard anything
about him lately until todays ProJo which says he went
OVER the State Police heads to charge that inmate after
the sheriff who works for him broke the guys jaw. The
state police said no and the fat lawn mower guy said he
did't care.
When is Carcirie going to remove this guy?
Has anyone checked HIS state phone records?
How about his spending?
Who does he answer to?
I cant believe this state!
