Re: Rep.Coogan, hangin with the Gangsters. 5/27/03 |
|
My
goodness, Representative Coogan has allot of explaining
to do. What in Holy God`s name is a member of the House
doing, out on the town, with a multiple convicted felon?
I went to RI
COURTS.com. I checked on John Broccoli, the owner
of Spardellos Clothiers. He has been convicted of many
felonies! He was given a sentence of 40yrs to serve. Violent
crime , Habitual criminal statue. How did he get out in
10 yrs???The record shows Judge Williams let Broccoli
out in 96, WHY?? Maybe Judge Williams would like him to
run the Traffic Court.. I guess in R.I. crime pays. We
have a man in the Legislature who conducts himself in
a manner NOT becoming his office. Hangs around with a
multiple convicted felon. Are the people of R.I. really
this blind? My best to you John, C. Cohen.

Independent Ignoramus |

To:
John Depetro the Independent Ignoramus:
I've listened to your show a couple of times to many.
I just had to write this to let you know how condescending
and smug you are. I truly don't understand how you can
call yourself an independent. If some callers call and
disagree with what ever topic you might be talking about
you have no time and immediately want to cut them off.
While you are so hell bent on trashing people I think
you should take a good look in the mirror, as I know you
have some skeletons in your closet as we all do. I've
notice on occasion when someone calls and bashes the Independent
Ignoramus you get all upset. Well what's good for the
goose is also good for the Independent Ignoramus.
Since you broadcast from atop of the RI State House do
me a favor and take a leap from it.

Is
this the same Bobby Oliviera that was arrested for threatening
a city official in Northern Rhode Island? Calling him
over and over late in the night?
WPRI channel 12's Jack White did an interview with him
and he did not seem sorry for his tatics.
This is the state of Rhode Island Democrats?

more union stupidity |
|
john....
fyi, as a cranstonian, like many (or all) rhode islanders,
have all my refuse carted away by waste management, inc
(of cranston).
about 3 weeks ago, i'd noticed my yard waste (in properly
marked containers) was not being picked up.. why you ask???
i contacted w.m. directly, and i was informed that there
is a 40 pound weight limit on yard waste.... poor babies....
we don't want them to hurt themselves.... i've lived in
cranston for 12 years, and this has never been an issue...
i contacted waste management corporate in texas, and a
very nice gent informed me that the union(s) had contacted
osha complaining that their spaghetti-armed employees
were reporting problems (injuries) due to the excessive
weight they had to lift...........
consequently, the union contracts now will be enforced
so that the girly-men of w.m.
no longer have to strain themselves lifting such inordinate
weight........
since when did garbagemen(women, persons) start wearing
panties ???!!!!
thanks to the union !!!!!!!!!!
p.s. they don't use a scale to weigh anyone's trash, it's
purely arbitrary....
maybe they've had a new microchip implanted so as to accurately
weigh organic refuse..
believe it or not !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Follow
these directions and you will see The Pentagon and World
Trade Center on your $20 bill.
Fold
a $20 bill in half like the picture below.
Tuck
the left half under the bill
to form a right angle as shown below.

Repeat the above with the right half.
This reveals the burning Pentagon.

Flip
the bill over to see the burning World Trade Center.

Please read the philosophy of the Republican party and
I don't mean like Chaffee or Caceri. I mean real members
of the party J.C. Watts, Kay Bailey Huthecison, Orin Hatch,
Dick Armey, Tom Delay, Dr. Frist, Fred Thompson, then
the old timers Howard Baker, Ronald Reagan, Alan Simpson.
I would also include Mitt Romney if he can turn the Kennedy
hell called Massachusetts around and make it fiscally
responsible, I would suggest most New England Catholics
become Mormons.

I thought Firemen were sacred now? |
|
Dear
John
I only get to hear bits and pieces of your show while
I am at work - but I have heard enough to know you can
certainly get the word out! Point in fact having a live
bugler for Veterans funerals. This brings me to my subject
line! I am writing on my father's behalf because I feel
he has somehow lost his voice in our society - My Dad
is 73 and a retired Cranston Firemen. We grew up in Cranston
and as long as I can remember Cranston was always a city
you were proud tell people you were from. I worked in
City Hall summers during High School many years ago -
so when my Dad called to tell me his pension was on the
chopping block I was shocked! I am still in shock after
listening and reading as much as I can on the situation
to the point it's at now "tabled". Whatever
benefits were set down when he retired is what he predicates
his style of living on today - to say he has to go back
to the day he retired and start from that amount is humiliating!
My father worked hard his whole life sometimes 3 jobs
at a time to support the 6 of us and the only job that
had a pension was this one - he lives in a modest home
not in a mansion as Mayor Laffey would have you believe
- he has no way of going out and making a living at this
point to supplement the cuts to his pension! How can the
Mayor go back and re-write my father's past - he should
be present time forward thinking instead of getting the
money off the backs of the retired elderly! I can tell
you how he is making this happen - Mayor Laffey is giving
the people of Cranston a choice higher taxes or cutting
the pension fund - in essence he is turning the proud
people of Cranston against each other!
I wonder if on your show you could let the people know
what is going on and that it could happen to them someday
when they are retired and their voices are not heard!
I also wonder how many others there are like me Dad a
man that put his life on the line to save, serve, and
protect the people of Cranston! My Dad Ernest C. Hutter
is my hero as well as Cranston's - he deserves to live
out his remaining years with dignity and with our respect,
after 911 I thought people recognized that, I can't believe
they would let him become a casualty of a budget cut!
Thank You for your time
Ann Marie Mackin
P.S. If you get to talk on this subject please let me
know how people feel about this and if anything can be
done before June 20th!

State Trooper |
|
John,
a few months ago a Rhode Island State Trooper was stopped
in East Greenwich while off duty and charged with refusing
a breathalyzer after being seen driving down the street
on the wrong side of the road, and resisting arrest. A
refusal is an automatic suspension for anyone. How did
she get hers dismissed? Next time the Colonial comes on
the show let's see what kind of gobalee-goo he will throw
at us. If law officers want to know why they don't get
respect they can read this and know why.

Only in Rhode Island |
|
John,
What district is the representative who believes in communism
from? Is she for real, no wonder this state can't get
any real companies here to create jobs and wealth. Mike
McMahon has a tough road to hoe if he has to follow laws
made by people like her. The sad part many of the voter
of this state believe tax the hell out people to pay for
jobs programs. The population here has no insight in cutting
spending and lower taxes bring in companies that create
jobs. How many residents from Rhode Island have to commute
out of state to work 15-20%?
I hate to say this but, if this law is approved I will
no longer shop in Rhode Island. Then see how long it would
take if only 10% of the population would follow suit how
much tax revenue this state would lose. It would not only
be sales tax but income tax because the companies would
need to layoff employees.
Mike McMahon also said, something that is disturbing that
small business will create most jobs. Most small companies
pay their workers minimum wage and limited benefits which
then will cost the state more in benefits for the poor.
We need large corporations that are not cheap with benefits
or compensation. How many more inexpensive restaurants
can this economy sustain. We have to many Italian, hamburger
and Chinese restaurants, there are only a few high quality
exclusive places and I can't blame them the economy does
not warrant anything better.

Important Topic for the Governor to Investigate |
|
Good
morning John,
Because of my work schedule, I'm unable to call you on
the phone to voice my opinions as often as I would like.
I was a little frustrated the other day when the governor
was on your show and some important topics concerning
saving money for our state and the people who live in
Rhode Island.
I think I sent you a similar e-mail before but I would
like to express my idea that would surely save millions
to the citizens of RI.
Lowering the car insurance rate in RI. My X wife moved
to Foxboro after our divorce and her car insurance dropped
$650 in two years with the same coverage and agent.
Please ask him about this when he is on your show again.
Thankyou

your 5/27 broadcast |
|
John,
I just had to take a couple minutes to respond after listening
to your show this morning. Congratulations about giving
the public awareness over the presidents poll. I agree,
Bill Clinton as the third greatest president is a joke.
What's more amusing is because I fit into that "18
to 29" bracket where he got almost a third of the
votes.
Guess this goes to show the shallow judgment of the youth
of today -- blinded by cheap tactics rather than paying
attention to politics. One other thing: That stooge who
called today (I think his name was Joe?), he's probably
just trying to find a forum to voice his own judgment
in because he must have lost his job. What would the people
rather have -- job security or their safety?
Unfortunately, I had to shut down the radio and get to
work just around 11, so I missed the rest of the show.
I didn't know if you kept some kind of transcript from
your show online by any wild chance?
Good luck with the show, I really enjoy listening.

GOVERNOR CARCIERI QUESTION |
|
Hi
John,
With all the concerns regarding the budget cuts, perhaps
you might pose a question to Governor Carcieri; why hasn't
the State gotten rid of all the Temps and Seasonal People
that are currently on the payroll? If money is such a
concern, I would think these positions would be eliminiated
immediately. There are people who are called "Seasonals"
and have been continuously employed without any break
in service!!!!
I will be listening for response.
Thank you

Proposition 2.5 |
|
Dear
John,
I have listened to your talk show periodically since you
first came on the air in Rhody and do enjoy many topics
you cover. The one issue that you discussed only briefly
on several occasions is that of Property tax's, and their
implications on our local Municipalities.
Over the last several months its become very apparent
that RI and Mass. may be sister states that are extremely
close in numerous ways but one thing that sets them so
very far apart is Proposition 2.5. This initiative that
started back in 1980 when Massachusetts was know as Tax-achusetts
set a very good model for RI to now follow. I work in
Mass., but live in RI and I find it very troubling to
read every day about each town and city having to raise
Property Tax's as the only way to deal with their short
falls. There lies the actual problem. In Fall river, Taunton,
New bedford, you find town government on the chopping
block. They are cutting jobs, benefits, and Medical increases
as well as retirement benefits all because their economies
are contracting. This is possible in Mass,. simply because
Prop 2.5 does not allow for the local governments to have
an open checkbook. Without getting to much into the details
of how prop 2.5 works the jest of it is local municipalities
may only raise Property Tax's by 2.5 % per year. There
are exceptions for new development and the only way to
obtain an override is to go to the tax payers by referendum.
Its strange to read how in RI local governments are able
to increase their own payrolls while in the same year
ask for 10%-17% increases in Property Tax's. The problem
is obvious, its the Unions that have our state hostage
and its about time for the citizens to take our government
back.
Rhode Island tax's are among the highest in the country,
and its only getting worse. Far too many people are dependent
on the government to pay their way, either with compensation
or benefits. Where was it written in our States Constitution
that we must look out for the Government worker? I thought
government was for the people by the people. John, perhaps
it would be great to hear the Independent man take the
Bull by the horns and lay the ground work for public discussions
regarding Proposition 2.5 being implemented in this state.
I know for a fact that Smith hill would do everything
in their power to kill this in committee before it would
ever get to the floor, its this reason that I am writing
to you on this miserable and cold Sunday as my beloved
Redsox are losing. ( but so are the yanks)
Please take this E-mail and just think what an effect
this could have on our state. It would force towns and
cities to budget around the 2.5% increase. If you question
if it would work, just look no closer then Massachusetts.
Its truly unfair to see runaway spending on Smith hill,
and its just not getting any better just worse. It feels
as if our state is run by the Special interests and the
Unions and its about time the working folks of this state
have a say to where their hard earned tax money goes.
John I hope if this E-mail does do anything it will enlighten
you to ask our Government officials why is it that the
State relies so very heavily on Property Tax's? Is that
fair in a body of governement that refuses to contract
as the economies of other states and its own constituents
are contracting? What would Cranston do if they could
not raise tax's? No the answer is not necessarily chapter
11. Cranston could have budgeted with the aspect that
2.5% Prop tax increase's would be all that was allowed.
This would have put a cap on those Union contracts by
all means and Cranston would not be in the mess its in
today. If we Rhode Islanders do not take control of what
is happening it will be no different then what happened
in Tax-achsetts in the late 70's.
Thank you for your time.
One irrate and frustrated- Rhode Islander

"Who passed the first bill and how" |
|
Dear Member
of the General Assembly,
That is a direct quote for Senate President William Irons.
Yes, the Senate did pass the first SOP bill, but let's
look at how:
- No study
of budget impact. SOP in the Senate version could cost
$60 million to the fiscal 2005 budget alone.
- No study
of judicial elections. With no disrespect intended to
any current member of the Judiciary, any objective study
would lead to the conclusion that of the 3 branches,
the Judiciary has the distinction of finding the most
unfortunate individuals to serve within it per capita.
- No study
of how to get members of the Assembly off of Boards
and Commissions without creating chaos. In the Senate
testimony this topic is not even discussed. Do they
plan to discuss it after the public election?
- No detail
at all to the role of CRMC which serves as a member
of all three branches. Again, disaster awaits as the
supporters of the Senate version have no answers for
the logistics their version of the bill causes.
The Campaign
for the Future of Newport County (CFNC) supports the House
version of the bill. Since we do not figure to have as
much sway in a body that would call Sen. Alves one of
its Chairpersons, we think it is time to take our case
directly to the people.
Therefore, the day previous to the next hearing of the
Senate Government Oversight Committee, the CFNC will be
active in the Westwood Drive-Lafayette Drive- Phillips
Road - Woodland Road area of East Greenwich. Phone calls
will be made throughout the day. The late afternoon and
early evening will feature strenuous door to door. Lastly,
in the evening, the day's activities will be followed
up in web chats and emails.
The subject matter of the aforementioned communications
will be the 4 issues I started this email with. We hope
it will make very clear to certain members of the Senate
where their constituents really are on this issue.
Take Care

Memorial Day 2004 |
|
As
I listened to our President in front of the Unknown soldier
Monument my thoughts went back a decade. While on a business
trip to Washington,D.C. I decided to visit the Vietnam
War Memorial. As a Korean Veteran I was deeply touched.
While at dinner at a prestigious Georgetown restaurant,
the young waitress wore a large vote for Clinton button.
I asked her if she ever visited the Vietnam War Memorial.
She responded no and she didn't care to. I then asked
her what about the 35,000 soldiers that died in that war
and her comment was "So what." What a difference a decade
makes with a different President, making us Americans
aware of the sacrifices these soldiers made and they did
not die in vain. It is unfortunate that some politicians
voted against the war and cannot justify their position
and still attack the President for their only political
agenda.
Memorial
Day is for the peace keepers who did not died in vain.

Rep.Coogan, hangin with the Gangsters |
|
I
would like to comment on your second show, in which Rep.
Coogan of East Providence appeared. He sounded so familiar.
The typical criminal type." I can explain, it really happened
like this, I got witnesses." One of his witnesses called
your show. John, the owner of Spardello's. Law enforcement
is very familiar with John. He has been a career criminal.
A convicted felon. The mastermind of the Gasbarro liquor
robbery,a very high profile organized crime case, in the
80s. Both Arlene Violet and James O'neil prosecuted this
case. So we hear John (Broccoli), the owner of Spardello's
,call and say Brain Coogan NEVER did ANYTHING wrong. It's
like the Devil calling ,saying Hell has air conditioning.
These are the kinds of people that are defending and hanging
around with a representative of the people? Rep. Coogan
is a sad commentary on the state of affairs in R.I. If
anyone cares to verify what I've written , go to '''ricourts.com''.
There, one can review Mr.Broccoli's felony convictions.

Cranston tax increase |
|
Heard
Mayor Laffey on Arlene's show yesterday, and most callers
were commending him for the job he was doing. Once Cranston
resident, however, called to say that he was a little
upset because his bill seemed to be increasing by 10%.
I tried to call to ask him if he'd like to trade places
with me, since mine will go up 100% if the tax assessor
doesn't change my outragoues, inequitable assessment.
Those of us that have filed for the right to appeal have
been told we'll get an appointment sometime next October.
One woman told the assessor she couldn't afford to make
the July and October payments, and he told her "take your
nice little profit and move". Perhaps you could get an
explanation from the Cranston tax assessor's office as
to why this assessment was mailed in February and they
won't talk to anyone until next Ocotober. And by the way,
the five houses in my immediate area that are on the market
aren't selling. Guess why? Noone wants these outrageous
tax bills.

Re: Liquor stores on Sunday 5/21/03 |

Gary,
I complained on this site about Rhode Island being a poor
place to do business and the reader's were in a rage.
I have to ask is it that they are ignorant there are nicer
parts of the country. I won't tell them where because
I don't want that much European trash ruining a nice area.
I find I dislike most people of this one ancestry and
they are too thick from Boston to Philly. I find it funny
of how there ethnicity is there profession. It was not
until the 1980's that they took educating there kids seriously,
60 years after most of them came off the boats from Europe.
As a group they were the least educated of any European
Ancestry until the 1980's. Where there is a large group
it is usually over regulated under enforced laws, too
much I scratch your back you scratch mine and way too
many middle men. They are tolerated, not accepted in most
other parts of the United States. This is ironic, members
of this ethnic group tried to set up a Klan in their neighborhood
New York City. What they don't realize in the Klan's history
they are an enemy #3 to exact. I do not support the Klan,
my spouse and I are also considered an enemy of their
lifestyle.

Dear
RI Elected officials:
As a result of the recent passed tax plan, the state of
Rhode Island will receive a $101 million windfall of which
$51.7 million will be set aside for Medicaid without the
help of our elected officials. Not only helping Medicaid
in the state and the reduction of taxes for dividends
will help our senior citizens. These elected officials
had their own political agenda and not the interest of
the people that put them in office. The standard talking
points and rhetoric we hear from their party is the same
year after year, the Republicans will take away your Social
Security and the tax package is for the rich. Kennedy
and Reed will go to all of the nursing homes to give them
donuts for their vote and scare the crap out of them.
During the past few years when a Republican President
was elected and congress became a Republican majority,
Rhode Island has been hurt financially by the actions
of Senator Chafee.
Our elected officials all voted against the war strictly
what their party told them. They were all hoping the war
would be a failure so they can get back in power. Listen
closely to the SPIN.
I say to these elected official we will remember them
at the next election.

Then, it was a year. It's also been 18 months. This was

I am glad Ruben won and I personally don't care what color
he is... be green if you want. I would much rather listen
to him sing on the radio then listen to the lead in Les
Miserables.

nothing to do with race |
|
hey
john,
im' a 31 year old african american............. and i
feel that this contest had nothing to do with race........
rubin, a better all around singer because of his voice,
exspression and big pressence on stage......... while
clay was also a very talented singer as well - but seems
better suited for a musical on stage or an attraction
at a theme park......
if you even take it a step further...... kelley ( the
previous winner ) was white - while justin was blk......
kelley just went platinum while justin has been at the
top of the charts well before..... should he have won???
was that fixed...... and if you think so - then gore won
as well and bush was just given the president position
because of his farthers power...

In
a nutshell, Ruben is a one dimensional singer. Neil Sedaka
stated on the show last night that Ruben was a great a
Rhythm & Blues singer but Clay had the instrument. I love
Rhythm & Blues but many of the songs sound alike. When
Ruben tried to sing any other kind of song, he didn't
sound right. Where as Clay had a wider range. I have a
funny feeling it was fixed. If Ruben hadn't won, there
probably would have been all sorts of special interest
groups complaining that the show was prejudice. Can't
win either way. And, Who said Clay was gay? He reminds
me of a Barry Manilow type but I don't believe Barry is
gay either. Clay is the true entertainer, where as Ruben
just stands in one place and sings. HELLO? Which one would
keep your interest on stage? Clay at least would make
it interesting. And those are my thoughts, I can't call
in to the show because I am at work and my boss's listen
to your show also.

Re: Fire victims 5/21/03 |
|
Dear
Sir,
This
was edited from a letter written April 29, 2003 on this
website title the boss system. It sounds as if you and
the other writer have something in common the people of
Rhode Island have to become more responsible for themselves.
This not Grandma and Grandpa's era of the WPA, CCC and
any other jobs programs set up under FDR. These people
think they are affluent here they don't know affluence
or wealth. The person who wrote about Houston TX knows
wealth and affluence. These people here are "keep up with
the Jones poor" they buy every new trinket that comes
out, own a modest house in North Kingstown, Smithfield,
Barrington, or Tiverton but have no other assets let alone
insurance. They are lucky if their company gives them
what they consider "full insurance coverage". Another
issue this state has to deal with are the do-gooders who
want taxpayers money used for the poor who to many only
have poor judgement. That is the churches responsibility
and other charities are for. Your friend's tragedy, to
many people are trying to get either the state or the
federal government to pay the victims for their loses.
In our society people have the choice to buy life insurance.
For a term life insurance for the age of the people killed
it would be about a ($1) one dollar per thousand dollars
worth of coverage depending on health for $1,000.00 I
have one million in coverage it will take of my family.
I would encourage anybody who has children to buy coverage
to take care of them. Nobody knows when there time will
come and many of us have commitments we are responsible
for, why place that burden on our spouses at such a horrible
time.

Rhode Island Has an Appetite for Ruben |
|
A
day after being crowned "American Idol," controversy surrounds
winner Ruben Studdard. A rival television network has
made allegations that the popular show, in which contestants
compete for a $1 million dollar recording contract, was
fixed. As a result, votes are being collected, analyzed
and re-count state by state. A Fox Executive commented,
"Its almost scary how similar this situation is to the
2000 presidential election, in which a minuscule amount
of votes really can make or break the competition. We
figure that if the Idol audience can sit through the uncomfortable
embarrassment of watching a song medley by former contestants,
we can at least issue a state by state vote re-count."
Earlier this morning, all votes were collected, recalculate
and counted, to see if the percentages from this audit
match the final tallies collected last night. It was understood
that the home states of Alabama and North Carolina went
to Ruben and Clay respectively. However, its was the other
states that the network is interested in. The states of
Ohio, New York, Seattle and Texas went to Akien, while
Florida, California, Arizona and Michigan went to Studdard.
Interestingly, a few states were borderline states, who's
votes could have easily gone either way and decided the
competition. Ironically, Rhode Island the littlest state
, had the biggest impact and controversy on the overall
competition. Initially, 51.8% of Rhode Island voters supported
Clay Akien while 49.2% believed Ruben Studdard was the
American Idol. After careful analysis, the votes were
collected and recalculated, resulting in startling results.
A prominent Brown University Sociologist commented, "From
the initial count, we did not realize that Rhode Island
had such a large homosexual population. If the numbers
are correct, 51.8% would place RI in the same category
as San Francisco, Miami and Provincetown. It makes sense,
Rhode Island is known for their very liberal universities,
great restaurants, openly gay mayor and their excessive
consumption of White Zinfandel (a sure fire sign of homosexuality).
Their support of Clay Akien all but, solidifies Rhode
Island as a very "gay" town and I don't mean gay in the
6th grade way either." Earlier this morning, the recount
showed very different result, then were previously reported.
52.4% of Rhode Islanders voted for the big fella, while
the remaining 47.6% of votes, went to "Elfboy" Akien.
Sociologists and anthropologists throughout the country,
are up in arms over the shifted focus of Rhode Island
demographic and population "make-up." "Initially, we thought
Rhode Island was a very "gay" town, but after closer analyst,
we realize that it's not so much gay as it is obese,"
comments Bill Shattner, Professor of Anthropology at Harvard
University. In turn, the demographic make-up of the "Biggest,
Little State," worked in Studdard's favor. Shattner continues,
"More Rhode Islanders can relate to the big fella, they
embrace him as one of there own, its not a black white
thing, rather its a fat - gay thing." If you walk around
Rhode Island, you will notice it's a "fat town." Research
shows that the city of providence has been laid out and
build around so that no Dunkin Donuts franchisee is more
then 1 mile from any point in the city. Atlanta based
donut franchisee Krispy Creme Donuts, sees much opportunity
in Rhode Island. Executives from Krispy Creme state, "Rhode
Island is a gold mine for us. There seems to be growing
demand for high fat, deep fried treats. The same people
who are over indulging on donuts and pastry treats, are
the same calling in their votes for Ruben." Also, the
fast food industry has had a favorable response in Rhode
Island, with their program of "super sizing it." Burger
Kings, director of Markets stats, " When one thinks of
the concept of "super-sizing it" it is very relevant to
this past American Idol competition. The views felt that
they wanted to "super-size" their Idol, they did not want
a low fat, no carb looking performer as a representative.
For us, the fast food and Idol fans are a match made in
heaven." In somewhat related news, the Gay Lesbian and
Bi-Gender Alliance, has sued Fox, claiming "misrepresentation,"
noting that not all people of alternative lifestyles drink
white zinfandel, rather they enjoy a nice, fruity liquor
drink or a Zima now-and-again. Fox could not be reached
for comment.
John,
you probably don't remember me, but we had lunch together
a few monthes ago with Peter Farrelly at the Grotto. I'm

Excel Limo Service |
|
Hi
John,
I
listen every day on my way to work. I was flying from
Logan on April 11th with a return on the 13th. After listening
to your comments about Excel Limo, I decided to give them
a try. We had a very nice young man named Mathew pick
us up at our home in East Greenwich. There was a great
deal of traffic into Logan (the 5:00pm commute). Mathew
was right on time and the ride was smooth and very comfortable.
Since I did not contact Excel again, I had a little concern
about the pick up for return to East Greenwich. Not to
fear, Sam, the ÒIndependent DriverÓ picked us up on schedule.
Again, the ride and conversation was very enjoyable. Thanks
for the recommendation. I will certainly use their services
again.
Sincerely,
Linda M. Schlossberg

Fireman's 4 day cycle breaks down like this! Two days
8:00am to 6:00pm. The next 2 days 6:00 pm to 8:00am The
following Four days they are off completely, day and night
.That provides 6 straight days and 6 straight nights in
a cycle . Remember the stations are equipped with BEDS
that are used day and night!!!!!! Studies have shown 93%
of work hours are spent in the station .The crossing guards
do have it tough, no beds!

Re: pawtucket school walk out |

John,
Why don't you think the teachers union is involved with
this? They are so Border Line Personality they won't decide
are they professional or should be union. The teachers
want the benefits of both but the responsibilities of
none. Except the fact teachers are idiots of academia
who cannot work in the private sector. They talk about
a shortage of teachers, the only shortage is in math and
science teachers, elementary school teachers are a dime
a dozen finding a good one is a miracle.
This state needs school vouchers for the parents to decide
where there kids go to school. Pray President Bush will
get legislation through that Federal School Aid can be
used by the parents for there children at any school of
there choice.
This state needs to break the municipal unions NOW!

Whither Iraq? |
|
I
have listened to the Independent Program on and off for
most of this past week and it seems like Iraq has fallen
off the radar screen. I realize that the crossing guards
scandal and stories of "pack rats" are important, but
I can't help wonder if it is just a coincidence that little
time was devoted to the current debacle in Iraq. No mention
was made of the recall of the civilian leaders of the
transition/occupation, the continued anarchy in the streets
(thugs on the loose just taking buildings and property
at will), Iran sympathetic clerics returning to claim
power, demonstrations demanding that the U.S. forces get
out, power and water still out in most of Baghdad.....
yadda... yadda.... yadda? Wahtzup?

theme song for automobile ad on tv |

You had a caller a couple of weeks ago
tell you the song Paradise By The Dashboard Light was
the song used in the ad. What they are using is a section
of the song were he is telling his girl who asked him

is telling a person to by me and the person replys "let

Mimi |
|
Hi
John,
God
Bless America. The reason Mimi made this statement about
her and JFK is probably because of a new book by Robert
Dalleck in which he says that JFK had an affair with a
beautiful 19 year old intern. She must have assumed that
it would come out sooner or later and she wanted to do
it herself.

I'm
writing in regards to the story about the White House
intern who came forward about her affair with JFK. She
was keeping it secret until her story was exposed in the
Daily News by Robert Dallek, who is writing a JFK biography,
An Unfinished Life. The story was revealed to him by a
former White House press aide, Barbara Gamarekian.
Please report the entire article before you invite listeners
to comment on a story. You've given them the wrong idea
saying that Marion Fahnestock, all of a sudden, decided
to reveal this secret after forty years, when in fact
it was revealed for her.
Thank you,

Carcieri |
|
John,
I was listening to your show today. You were applauding
Mayor Laffey about what he is doing in Cranston. I can't
aggree more. However, Don't bring Carcieri into the same
cloth as Laffey. He appointed 50 card carrying union members
to find out how to save the state money. Do you actually
think that these so called WORKERS are going to finger
any other union member. If this is the BIG AUDIT, we are
going nowhere. You were bitching about union members today.
And lose the title Independent man. You are Republican
all the way. Well so is Carcieri and his plan is idiotic.
By the way I am also Repubican and I dont call myself
independent.

John
what's up with this I'll never watch the Simpson's again.
The
Simpson's bashed the US last night by saying at the end
of the show they were appalled they were fighting each

a about war they would sing one that was peaceful. SO
they all joined hands formed a Maple Leaf and sang the
Canadian national anthem while waving Canadian flags,

Blue Laws |
|
John,
Changing
the laws on alcohol to raise tax dollars is crazy, all
it does is cut a pie into smaller pieces it will not raise
more revenue. It may even cause some small business owners
expense to go up because of the use of more power and
the owner will get less time off.
Do
you think the delivery companies will deliver on Sunday
and take a different day off. About women staying home
in Rhode Island it always has been most women work because
the jobs here have never paid a lot. There is a city the
size of Rhode Island with twice the population and 3 to
4 times as many millionaires than Rhode Island that was
developed for business where 75% of the mothers of young
children stay home vs. Rhode Island where 75% have to
work. It has very little regulations relative to Rhode
Island, the government here is an extortionist. I will
give you an example, I went to get a pizza over the weekend,
the pizzeria had to have six licenses to sell just food
no alcohol that is a disgrace.Three I could see the other
three were just to raise municipal revenue. Maybe your
listeners will write there elected officials. By the way
the city is Houston, TX the most affordable city in the
country, the largest city with no zoning.

Liquor stores on Sunday |
|
IM,
Wow! Did that topic bring all the goose-stepping fatmouthed
Nazis out of the woodwork. Who the hell do these people
think they are to try and run everyone else's lives?
So, it's OK with Gladys, there, if I buy milk on Sunday,
but not beer? Hey, for about a third of the population,
MILK IS POISON!
A wise man said a while back, America is supposed to be
about personal choice and personal responsibility, not
bone headed goons poking their noses into everyone's business
but their own.
I do work six days a week. If I want to have a beer on
sunday afternoon, who has the right to stop me? Why should
I be ordered to run my life to satisfy these jerks?
Rhode Island sucks!

Second hand smoke!!! |
|
Maybe
Rush Limbaug is right! He claims that his platform is
run on the truth!!! The well respected ( British Medical
Journal) has said that, there is no measurable medical
rates of heart disease or lung cancer amoung non smokers
who ever lived with smokers!
Maybe
this is why our officals decided to spend all the tobaco
money (from the tobaco co. settlement) on ballancing the
state budget instead of on helping smokers quit and for
teens not starting to smoke! Maybe they knew this all
along!
Then
why are many towns, citys and states trying to make every
places"non smoking"??? If true, then this is all bull
and lies from smokers who just don't like smoke not a
health issue!!! Why is it that they always have a kid
on their ads??? The latest one that I heard was some kid
who was worried about his mother working in a restraunt
with all the second hand smoke!!! I am a nonsmoker but
I always wondered why all my friends and their mothers
never had any health problems from second hand smoke from
all their fathers and husbands "heavy" smoking! Interesting!
How about putting this up on your discussion board John?

Editorial Page |
|
John,
I listen to you every day....most of the time I agree
with you but today I need to comment on your show.
Drawings on the editorial page are not necessarily supposed
to be humorous. You know that as well as I. I interpreted
the drawing as a statement about the confusing design
of the Station. Only YOU mentioned mice... there can be
a maze without mice. There are garden mazes made for people,
for example. I think the artist was commenting on the
difficulty some of the victims had finding a way out of
the building because of it's poor design. It was a statement
and in no way suggested that he was comparing the victims
to mice.
I will continue to listen, in spite of this day, but John,
I couldn't figure out what your point was or if it was
just a slow news day.
PS...I love those Bay Buick ads... good job.

Projo's Insensitivity |
|
Good
Morning John,
I
am listening to your show and do every day now that I
am unemployed. Yes, I am in full agreement with you. I
have not seen the cartoon yet, but it truly was in poor
taste. If anything, the floor plan WAS THE TRAGEDY and
the causation of the tragic event. The Projo is a "poor
excuse" for a newspaper. If you read USA Today, the following
day you will see reprints of their articles. Keep up your
endeavors to expose the ridiculous and corrupt. This state
makes me sick!!! With all the corruption in the municipalities
and state governments - you can't manage to afford to
live here anymore. If they every do put a casino in this
state, we will end up like Atlantic City. I am an avid
talk radio listener and have been since the days of Jack
Comely and Sherm Strickhouser. Some woman watch soaps,
I listen to talk radio. I absolutely love Michael Savage.
I just wish that the show wasn't pre-empted by Red Sox's
games. (Must they play EVERY night - don't they spend
time with their families?) Just moments ago, Joe Gruttaduria
called. I am aquainted with his mom from the library.
I did work there for a time and am a weekly visitor to
the library. She is a kind, gracious woman whom I came
to like immensely. As a woman and a mother, the grief
that she and her family are going through causes me to
weep every time I think about them. I also lost a cousin,
John Longiaru. His dad was in my wedding party. John and
Sus, his wife, are also wonderful people. My sons hung
with "Doc" and he was in my oldest son's wedding party
also. My son is a DJ and mostly all the guys who hung
together were. He had invited all the guys to the Station
that night. Only one was planning to go and last minute
he changed his mind. MY GOD, John, WHY?? did this awful
tragedy happen to these wonderful people. I also listen
to Dave Kane on the weekends and he brings me to tears
when he breaks up as he speaks of his son. You and Arlene
Violet are an advocate for us in this state. It is a shame
that the people of this state don't take an active role
in their government. You can't even get a job in this
state if you don't KNOW somebody. Hey, I need a job -
do you know of any????

Fire victims |
|
Hello
John,
My
heart goes out to the victims and their families of the
Station fire. I get the impression from the news and other
sources that many of the victims and survivors did not
carry any types of insurance that a responsible person
(parent, husband, working wife) would have carried. Where
is the personal responsibility? Too many people are relying
on the goodwill, largess and expected settlements of others
to carry on with their lives. A good discussion should
be what are Rhode Islanders doing to protect their families
from tragedy. Everyone who has responsibilities for a
child or spouse should carry Life Insurance. It is not
expensive. Do people now think that after 9/11 the Government
is going to take care of them if a tragedy happens? What
about personal responsibility?

Firefighters |

I
heard your insulting remarks concerning Cranston firefighters
this AM. I'd like to ask you a few questions. How many
of your childrens' Birthdays have you missed because you
had to work? How many Christmasses? Thanksgivings?
How many times have you thought to yourself "I could get
killed here" in the course of doing your "j-o-b"? How
many times, have you seen someone you work with break
his hand, crush his foot in a ladder? fall off an icy
garage roof at 3am and break his pelvis in 4 spots? Get
thrown up on by a Hepatitis C patient? Get stuck by a
neede from an aids patient? Tear their rotator cuff swinging
an axe? Get chemical pneumonia after a chemical exposure?

do you think goes every time someone gets a strange white
powder in the mail? Or finds an unknown chemical leaking?
How you can sit there, behind that mic, getting paid whatever
it is they pay you, and criticize the job we do, and say
we don't deserve the pay, or all they do is put out a
few garage fires is just beyond my comprehension. Mismangement
of City funds should NOT mean it's open season on firefighters.
We give 110%, we don't stop because we're off duty, I
know plenty of firefighters that have gotten hurt or have
saved lives or helped out when not working. Like to know
when the last time YOU stopped to pull someone from a
burning car on the way home? All this is not a work of
fiction, they are all events that I personally have witnessed.
So maybe you should THIINK before you start shooting your
mouth off about how firefighters are over paid for what
they do!
Also,
how many times have you gone to the funueral of a fellow
talk show host who died in the line of duty?
